Nats Win!

Congratulations to our hometown team, the Washington Nationals, for winning the 2019 World Series! After a series of heartbreaking losses in past qualifying rounds, the Nats finally broke through, capping a miraculous run through the playoffs with a nail-biting game seven win.

Combining MVP Steven Strasburg’s pitching, Howie Kendrick’s perfectly timed home runs, and manager Davey Martinez’s leadership, the Nats fought off elimination at every stage and emerged victorious. Perhaps now it will be said that Washington is “first in war, first in peace, and first in the Major League.”

To celebrate the victory, the National Archives is having a special document display in the West Rotunda Gallery of the National Archives Building in Washington, DC, through November 11, 2019.

The documents include a 1925 aerial photograph of Griffith Stadium in Washington, DC, where the Senators, the Negro League Homestead Grays, and other teams played between 1911 and 1965; a 1934 photograph of President Franklin D. Roosevelt throwing a baseball at Griffith Stadium before a Boston Red Sox vs. Washington Senators game; and an original pen-and-ink drawing by renowned political cartoonist Clifford Berryman drawn after the Senators’ narrow victory over the Yankees late in the 1924 season, a game that paved the way for the first DC World Series win.

The National Archives Museum is open every day, except Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Enter on Constitution Avenue and 9th Street, NW.

  1. Not a fan of either team, an excellent series none the less. This series is what it’s all about. Congradulations to thr Nationals.

  2. We here at Philadelphia’s own Lemon Clear Cleaning Service could not believe it when the Nats won the world series. Especially after giving up Bryce Harper to us! It was kinda like, well, we can do it without your Bryce! We don’t need you to win a world series…in fact, we are better without you. I definitely think the pitching carried them. Strausberg was awesome!
